A Message

From Marty

If you are considering a visit to Crossings, please accept this as a personal invitation. We understand visiting a new place and meeting new people isn't easy. Let me put your mind at ease; Crossings is a safe place—a place where you can experience healthy community and grow in your faith through Sunday services or groups and classes that meet throughout the week.

We are committed to serving God’s people locally through our church locations (OKC, Edmond, Community Center Service, Mayfair, and Online), Prison Ministry, Community Center, and Clinic as well as abroad through our global missions ministry. There are many opportunities for you to share your gifts and talents through volunteering.

The information on this page is meant to assist you in learning about who we are as a church and what governs our choices. Our hope is that you gain a better understanding of who we are, what we believe, and what we do.

What We Believe

Explore what we believe to learn about who we are as a church and what governs our choices.

THE BIBLE

The Bible is the inspired Word of God that uniquely reveals who he is, who we are, and how we are to live in relationship with him. It is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

PSALM 119; 2 TIMOTHY 3:16; 2 PETER 1:20-21

GOD

God is the loving Creator of the Heavens and the earth, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

GENESIS 1:1, 26; JOHN 1:1-1; 4:24; ROMANS 1:19-20; EPHESIANS 4:5-6; 1 JOHN 4:7-8

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is the eternal and second person of the Trinity. Though fully divine, he became fully human. He was born of the Virgin Mary and lived a sinless life. He was crucified for crimes he didn’t commit, died and was buried. Through his death and resurrection, he freed all people from the power of sin and death. He will return again, ushering in the everlasting Kingdom of God. All who respond to the finished work of Jesus by a personal belief that is demonstrated in personal obedience to Jesus and his teachings will live forever with him.

MATTHEW 1:18-25; JOHN 1:1, 12:44-45; ROMANS 9:5; HEBREWS 4:15; EPHESIANS 5:2; 1 THESSALONIANS 4:16-17

HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the eternal and third person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit continually draws men and women closer to God. Being marked by the Holy Spirit as children of God, believers are encouraged, convicted of sin, transformed to be like Christ, and empowered to serve others.

JOHN 14:16-17; 16:5-15; ROMANS 8:9-11; 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1-31; GALATIANS 5:22-23

SALVATION

Salvation is a free gift from God, not from any ceremony or good works we perform, but by faith in Jesus Christ. God desires for all people to be in a right relationship with him. In turning from a self-centered life and turning to God and accepting the work Jesus Christ accomplished in his death and resurrection, a person receives eternal life with God.

JOHN 1:12-13; 3:16-17; 14:6; EPHESIANS 2:8-10; 1 TIMOTHY 2:4; 1 JOHN 2:2

THE CHURCH

The church is God’s chosen community, which has been entrusted with his message of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. While there are many expressions of the church in our world, there is only one “universal church,” made up of all who have received Jesus Christ as Lord. Because the church is comprised of human beings in the process of becoming more Christ-like, no church is perfect.

ROMANS 12:4-5; 1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-27; EPHESIANS 2:19-22; 4:11-16

AS A CHRIST-CENTERED PEOPLE, WE WILL LIVE BY FAITH, BE A VOICE OF HOPE, AND BE KNOWN BY LOVE.

We want this vision to be front and center at all times, even if it means that we must not do some things that we could do. Our calling is clear and will continue to guide us into the future.

LIVE BY FAITH

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” - Hebrews 11:1

We believe:

  • Faith is first belief and then action (Hebrews 11).
  • Faith is available through life in Christ.
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ.” – Romans 3:22
  • Faith is a choice.
“Lord, increase our faith.” – Luke 17:5
  • Faith pleases God.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God.” - Hebrews 11:6

BE A VOICE OF HOPE

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13

We are to be hope-givers and desire to:

  • Stay out of the arguments of the culture.
  • Focus on the greatest need of every person on this planet—and his name is Jesus.
  • Be in unity, relationally and spiritually.
  • Lead with love to people outside the church family, right where they are.

BE KNOWN BY LOVE

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” -John 3:16

“This is My commandment, that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another, just as I have loved you.” – John 15:12

As believers in Christ, we are called to the highest form of love. Our desire is to love the way Jesus loved—to love others like we have been loved by him. We want to be an extravagant demonstration of the love of Jesus Christ to this community and world.

By God’s guiding hand, we continue to reach people for Christ by having five key distinctives that make Crossings the kind of place so many people call their church home:

UNITY

“For just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” – Romans 12:4-5

We believe unity is essential, and we focus our efforts on teaching the non-debatable principles of Scripture while leaving freedom for personal convictions related to non-essential doctrinal issues.

COMPASSION

“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” – Matthew 9:36

When we view people like God views them, it drives us to love unconditionally and seek to serve them in any way possible. Our hearts should ache for those in need and it should move us to take action.

GENEROSITY

“All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need." – Acts 2:44-45

"You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully." – 2 Corinthians 9:7

From the beginning of the Church, generosity has been a distinguishing attribute of Christ-followers. It is no different in this community. We believe God has given us everything we have, including hope for our future, so we want to give all we have joyfully and without reservation.

HUMILITY / TRANSPARENCY

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” – Philippians 2:3-4

Realizing we can’t do life by ourselves, we encourage a culture of openness as we go through life’s journey. We recognize the need for God’s help and for community. We learn from others’ experiences and knowledge while sharing ours so others may benefit.

EXCELLENCE

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” – Colossians 3:23

Our belief is that excellence honors God and inspires people. We know, too, that we are responsible for how we use the gifts and offerings we receive. For these reasons, we consider it imperative to do everything to the absolute best of our ability and with the attitude of Christ.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

We affirm that God gifts both women and men for ministry in the church and his Kingdom. From early on, our spiritual tribe has affirmed women in ministry and leadership in the local church. Here at Crossings, we believe our history is born out of early church history, and even the life and ministry of Jesus. While we understand that there are differing views and interpretations of scripture around this subject, our practice at Crossings is to affirm and support both men and women who are called and empowered to ministry and leadership in the church.

SUNDAY STRATEGY

The focus of our Sunday services is on engaging people who are in many stages of faith—from the curious non-believer to the mature Christian. While Sunday morning messages are centered around life-application, more in-depth teaching is emphasized through our Sunday School and Wednesday evening groups and classes. Crossings seeks to assist people in day-to-day living: to help them find healing from the past, experience assurance and encouragement for the present, and discover hope for the future.

DEBT FREE

Church leaders are committed to Crossings operating in a biblically sound and financially responsible manner and, therefore, have chosen throughout our history not to incur any long-term debt. This means new projects are undertaken only as they can be paid. We have promised to leave a legacy for future generations that is healthy and debt-free.

BAPTISM

Christian baptism is a symbolic act that represents the new life one has found in following Jesus—an outward sign of an inward change. We encourage anyone who has chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to be baptized. Because we believe baptism is a personal choice, we don’t baptize infants but wait until children are old enough to make this decision. Baptism is not required for church membership; in fact, at Crossings, anyone who has decided to follow Jesus Christ and has become involved in the life of this church is considered a member. Baptisms by immersion are held in Sunday services throughout the year. If you’re interested in being baptized, learn more and register here.

PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION

Parent/Child Dedication at Crossings is a commitment for parents. It is recognition of their solemn responsibility to raise their child in a Christian home and a church where he/she may come to know Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior. All parents interested in dedicating their children are asked to attend a one-hour class, held on a Sunday morning. Once parents have taken the class, they can have their child dedicated during any future dedication service offered. Register for a class here.

COMMUNION

Taking communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is a time of remembering the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. The bread and the juice are symbolic reminders of the body and blood of Jesus. Communion should only be taken by those who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Crossings practices open communion, which means individuals do not need to be actively attending Crossings to take communion. Every believer is invited to partake.

John Wesley was an influential theologian and his impact continues to this day. His approach to understanding God emphasizes the role of grace and love as key components of God's character. The School of Wesleyan Studies exists to provide training and increase knowledge and application of Wesleyan Theology for professional and personal growth.
